Taking the Time
02:59
|
|||
I started with a headache & a sense of loss
I've loved so much that I've forgot
to take the time
to talk about
the wind moves over the world picking up the dusk
the sun set behind us
my mind is blank yet full of life
your features falling into place
elaborating ears & face
I have taken time retracing my steps
backwards through the sand
but the tides keeps coming in
erases all of them
light falling into the creases of the brow
my mind is blank yet full of life
your features falling into place
elaborating ears & face
my mind is blank yet full of life
your features falling into place
elaborating ears & face

For Frank

Cohasset by Frank O'Hara
I see you standing
there on a rock
in my light mind
your body’s smiling
as a tern plummets
and gulps fishward
from hot rocks
to freezing water
clambering up
swooping down
golden like last
year always golden
your tender eyes
pull me into the
water like a lasso
of seaweed green
and I fall there
the huge rocks
are like twin beds
and the cove tide
is a rug slipping
out from under us

I told you once
I felt like I didn't know you
rather, I would draw you
so different each time
I didn't understand your jawline
until I met your sister
three years later on a balcony
& I find myself here often
shy, tugging at the rope
of another person's eye contact
tension, & trying to grasp detail
in the spokes
ebb & flowing round
the deep wells of pupils
precious metals filled into cracks of pottery
& an intimacy
found in recognizing

Out of Season
02:46
|
|||
the wires in your irises
pulling themselves apart
like wisps of a cloud coming down
to your tiny brow
collecting your thoughts
like a weather balloon
floating through frightened shards of the fog
it's overwhelming
I think of a meadow
it's overwhelming
I think of a meadow
fall comes & we gather
softening plums
from the ground
with the landscape receding
& the branches were pulling it back out
I saw the expression in the cage of your hands
inbetween all the stains of the fruit
petal imperfections in your bitten fingernails

& I lose track of myself
when I'm with my friends
does it all balance out
like trying to remember where to step
in a creaky house
& I saw you singing
in the stairwell
felt bees leaving
cranes landing
felt bees leaving
cranes landing
& I hear whispers by myself
when I'm away from my friends
the cohesion drowns my swells
like pieces of my being recollecting
in chambers repressing a drought
& I saw myself feeling
doted towards thee
felt my countenance dreaming
heart singing
felt my countenance dreaming
heart singing
sometimes it's only a glimpse
my friends remind of my favorite parts of myself
it's only a glimpse
my friends remind of my favorite pieces of myself

I reel in memories
like the clouds to a puddle
leaky hands hold tiny lakes to rain
I can only hope one day
to hold what I've just found
anxiety pressed
diamonds to my chest
left, reflections distorted
like wind on creek water texture
& my cracks show up as cranky vulnerability
hard to speak
like breaking the beat of silence
after an explosion of pottery
it's all tied together
as the sand is to the tide
illuminated in old motion
gold mending the breaks
in shuddered & repaired clay
same as detail
traced in foam
embraced to the shoreline
& when my smiles are genuine
you'll see it
in my eyelid ripples
laugh wrinkles underneath

Tattered & Sweet
03:11
|
|||
tears at the seams
elbows & the knees
bugs eating away patterns
between veins of the leaves
think of me
not split by
life but made intricate like
stories soaked in coffee
flowers to come
bursting through their crowns
I want to hold your finger in a field
trample grass to a path
leave the wake of our past
tell me what you believe
& I'll tell you what I fear
lay down look at our scars
like they're shapes in the clouds
if you think of me
don't let me drift by
keep me like the flowers pressed in
your notebook

Divination
04:59
|
|||
wrinkles in your clothes
catching dew sinking in
droplets soaking through
spread shapes
read like tea leaves
I don't believe in anything
but I still see omens in everything
I will bend with the wind
let my torso in the breeze
learnin' to be a less stubborn being
I don't believe in anything
but I still see omens in everything

There are patterns in the sand
found sentiment in random sediment
toe holds pulling up dirt
left to ponder the world
floating over me
with the wind on a string
movement of all things
oscillating feelings
& grass spilling different ways
the look on your face
all laid out before me
trails to cross
I see my past
both unspooling yarn
I look back towards nostalgia & regret
I taking it apart
take it apart I forget
how much of what I see becomes the honeycomb of memories
wild radishes & caster beans in my peripheries
I'm healing
by mistake
I am healing
by mistake
I am healing
by mistake
I am healing
by mistake
I am healing
by mistake
I am healing
by mistake
I am healing
by mistake
I am healing
by mistake

Turtle Turnip San Diego, California
My childhood was a heat haze of vision.
Sight connected with the idea of
sun
light radiant grains of reflected colors and shapes that appeared more bright
(contrasts the photography that my family kept under glass displays.
A faded focus; cool, & simmered down as if left more calm) than I can figure now.
